I recently setup a Brocade SAN Switch for zones in an HP C7000 Blade Enclosure. I thought I would run through all of the steps.
To configure the switch, log into the HP On-Board Administrator and locate the blade switch you plan on zoning. Click on the Management Console to launch the Management Console.
After you enter the username and password the web tools administration page will be displayed as below. Click on the Zone Admin to launch the zone configuration page.
The Zone Administration page starts out with the Alias tab highlighted. Aliases are nothing more then a common name to the WWN for the devices. Use the alias in order to more easily identify the connections. In order to create an alias click on the New Alias button and then create a name which you believe will help you configure the switch more easily. For example you might call one of the Aliases something like Blade_01, Backup_A, App_02. Remember that if you have multipathing or redundant connections you should name each Aliases so you know can identified them. Take some time to figure out your schema.
Once you have created the Alias you need to map it to the WWN in the left column. Use the "+" to drill down until you find the device and then click "Add Member".
NOTE: The ideal way to build the configuration may be to power up each device one at a time and then assign the Alias name.
After you have created the aliases you can create your Zones. Click on the Zone tab and then click the New Zone. As with Aliases you need to find a suitable name for Zone. Once you have entered the name of the Zone then you need to assign the connections to the zone. Your Aliases will be listed at the bottom. You will need to add all of the connections that will see each other in the zone. An example would be the Storage Array to the Server. Only member in the zone can see each other everything else will be shielded.
Now that you have the Zones configured you need to create the config. This is kind of like the recipe for the switch. The zones are the ingredients and the config is the completed setup, which the switch operates. To build the Zone config, click on New Zone Config and create a name. As with all of the naming convention choose a name that best describes the configuration you want to push to the switch. An example might be Phase01 or Production. Once you are sure you want to enable the Configuration then click on Save Config, then Enable Config. Make sure and watch the output in the window at the bottom. The Save must complete fully before enabling.
